Nikon set to update Nikon D800, 800e with mid-life kicker ‘Nikon D800S’

Nikon D800E Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)Similar to the upgrade to the D4, Nikon appears to be readying a sweet, but not game-changing upgrade to its high-resolution sibling, the . The new model, christened by various press and leakers as the Nikon D800s, is expected to be slightly faster (5 fps, 6 with vertical grip), have 1-stop better high-ISO performance at the same 36MP resolution (whether this is true for Raw images, or is only for JPEGs courtesy of the expected new EXPEED 4a chip is unclear), and only arrive in a model without the anti-aliasing filter (ala the D800e) – although with improved anti-moire software to make that acceptable. The Autofocus unit and LCD are also expected to receive upgrades. Those of us who love geolocation may get to enjoy built-in GPS (finally!), and the camera may be a little lighter than the ones it is replacing. Price won’t be any lower, though. So, if you’re thinking of buying a or now, you might want to wait and look for price cuts and rebates, or pick up the new model – although I wouldn’t expect it to ship until the end of summer.
